Our 2022 Strategic Action Plan charts a course of action for Oak Prairie Work Group partners and their collaborators in conservation to protect and restore oak and prairie habitats, and to increase public understanding, appreciation, and stewardship for them over the long term.
Relationship to the Portland-Vancouver Regional Conservation Strategy
In 2012, over a hundred regional experts collaborated to create the Portland-Vancouver Regional Conservation Strategy and supporting documents and mapping. Three documents and GIS-based computer mapping helped provide a shared understanding of our region:
We conducted riparian and upland habitat prioritization mapping, identifying some of the most important remaining habitat areas for future planning and conservation. However, we lacked data to directly incorporate oak or habitat connectivity. The Oak Prairie Work Group (established in 2012) and the Regional Habitat Connectivity Work Group (established in 2016) were formed to address these key data gaps.
In 2026, the region will begin work to update the Regional Conservation Strategy, including integrating the Oak Prairie Work Group’s oak mapping products and the Regional Habitat Connectivity Work Group’s habitat connectivity data. You can contribute to the effort by joining the Oak Prairie Work Group or the Regional Habitat Connectivity Work Group.
