Our Work
Umpqua Prescribed Burn Association
Nestucca National Wildlife Refuge Prescribed Fire for Prairie Restoration Credit: USFWS
Umpqua Prescribed Burn Association (UPBA) was established to foster a community dedicated to restoring natural fire regimes through controlled burns which enhance landscape resilience against wildfires, and invasive species, and improve the native understory and biodiversity. By reintroducing controlled burns on the landscape, the UPBA aims to offer the community a cost-effective method for land stewardship and community involvement, mitigating wildfire hazards, enhancing wildlife habitat, expanding wildlife corridors, and addressing the impacts of climate change. There is no prior experience needed to become involved with this group - merely a want to be involved in your community and the stewarding of our land into a more stable and natural future.

Fire as a Tool Working Group
Fire as a Tool is a collaborative initiative that brings fire professionals, landowners, and prescribed burn enthusiasts together to exchange ideas and discuss opportunities and challenges surrounding wildfire reduction efforts and the practices that mitigate risk in and around developed oak habitats in the Umpqua Basin. It is an opportunity for Umpqua Oak Partnership partners to stay current on wildfire topics and seek new ways to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires in the future. It provides a forum to share, learn, and grow.
